The Bates are one of the awesome families that I have had the opportunity to shoot for several years now. It is probably my favorite thing about photography, the relationships. I get to watch this family grow every year and I get to be a part of documenting their love for each other and the journey of their life. It truly is a joy and an honor. I hope I get to photograph them every year for decades to come.
I am trying to get better at these vlogs. I am figuring out some tricks to make it easier. In today's post I try out my new Rode Video Micro.
We also go for a walk to release the butterflies that River had watched turn from caterpillars. River has been pretty sick for a couple days, but this was a nice break.

The clouds were starting to look pretty epic, so I mounted my GoPro Session to the front of my Tahoe and let it shoot the sunset as I worked. It came out pretty awesome. I need to do little things like this more.
I am sitting here looking through pictures and trying to mentally process this past weekend, and I am not sure I am ready to yet. We flew out for a whirlwind trip to Virginia to photograph our amazing friends Kelly and Steve's wedding and it was the most beautiful and emotional weekend we have had in a long time. The wedding was near Lynchburg Virgina which is the town that we met and both went to college in and in many ways it is the town that made us. We saw so many old friends and experienced so may places that were so influential to us. It was really fun, but at the same time a little bit hard to process.
The wedding was absolutely perfect and beautiful and so much fun. We are so thrilled for our friends. God has bless their marriage already. We are going to miss them. Many more photos coming soon, I just wanted to get a little preview up.
We love you Kelly and Steve and we are so freakin' happy for you guys.
The last few rolls of film I got developed were super grainy and faded and I was a little bit disappointed and discouraged, so when this roll of film came in I was absolutely ecstatic. You can ask Courtney, it was all I talked about for a good while.
This roll was a few firsts. I recently was finally able to acquire one of my dream camera and lenses. I bought a Nikon F3 with a 50mm f1.2 mounted on the front from Englewood Camera and Photo. It is a beautiful little setup and feels so good in my hand. It is by far my favorite camera I have ever owned. This roll was also my first time shooting Portra 400. I have always loved the way the film looked but for some reason never got around to shooting it. I totally get now why people love it. It is a BEAUTIFUL film. The colors, dynamic range, grain structure...it all just works so well. It is probably my new go-to film of choice.
Mostly I shoot film to capture everyday life and this roll is no exception. Spring is starting to hit here in Colorado. Everything is turning green and we are spending a lot more time outside. At the same time the seasons are changing, it seems like our daughter is starting to bloom as well. Her personality is starting to come out a lot and it brings me so much joy to watch. She smiles all the time, is starting to be silly, and her new thing is she loves to wave at everybody in sight. She is still magical to me. Anyways her is a few scenes from our life recently captured on film.
